Thanks to Baltimore Deacon Chuck Hoppe for this news:
Just want to ensure you were tracking the 14 men that were ordained today, 30 Sep 2023, by Archbishop Lori at that Cathedral of Mary Our Queen here in Baltimore.
Happy news from my home state! The Catholic Review has profiles of the men and a full report on the ordination:
In his homily, Archbishop Lori said the hallmark of diaconal ministry is “charity flowing from the heart of Christ.” If God is love, he said, then true power and true authority are nothing other than love.
“We can only belong to one another if we subordinate ourselves to one another,” said Archbishop Lori, who was joined at the Mass by Auxiliary Bishop Bruce Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., and more than 100 priests and deacons.
The archbishop challenged the new deacons to read Scripture daily. He told them to keep their eyes “fixed on Jesus” when they assist at the altar and perform other diaconal duties.
The names of the new deacons are below, from the cathedral’s worship aid for the ordination rite.
Congratulations, brothers, and welcome! Ad multos annos!
