A grateful diaconal bow to my friend Brian Fraga, who posted the image above on Twitter, showing the new deacons and their bishop.

Details, announced in Rhode Island Catholic: 

 Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, through the Imposition of Hands and the Invocation of the Holy Spirit, will ordain nine men to the Sacred Order of Deacons at the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. The candidates began their formation for the Permanent Diaconate in October 2016.

As ministers of the altar, permanent deacons may proclaim the Gospel, prepare the altar for Mass and distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to members of the Church.

Permanent Deacons may also preside over communal prayer, administer baptism, assist at and bless marriages, distribute holy Communion to the sick and dying and conduct funeral rites of the Church.

The ordinandi are: Mr. Brian B. Callahan, Mr. Joseph J. Clossick, Mr. Joseph J. Day, Mr. Jason A. Gardner, Mr. David E. Gillis, Mr. Alexander J. Marchetti, Mr. John M. Regan, Mr. Oscar M. Rivas and Mr. Steven R. Valliere.
