I’m pleased to share this happy news: my new book of devotions and prayers, “A Deacon Prays,” is finally in print!  For me, this is truly a labor love, and one that I hope will enrich the life and ministry of deacons everywhere.

With a Foreword by Bishop Frank Caggiano, this little volume offers prayers and reflections for many moments in a deacon’s life. Here are words of praise and petition, of gratitude and longing — words to be whispered before a baptism, a wedding, a wake, even before chanting the Exsultet. The volume also includes The Way of the Cross for Deacons and A Deacon’s Rosary (The Mysteries of Light.)

These are prayers by a deacon, for deacons — but as I write in the Introduction, they are really for anyone:

The possibilities and purposes of prayer are boundless. It is my intent that these short prayers can be useful to almost anyone seeking to pin down their hopes, aspirations, doubts and joys and then somehow put them into words.  St. Philip Neri once wrote, ‘It is an old custom of the servants of God to have some little prayers ready and to be frequently darting them up to Heaven during the day, lifting their minds to God out of the mire of this world. He who adopts this plan will obtain great fruits with little pain.’ Maybe, just maybe, some of the words in this book can help today’s ‘servants of God’ out of the ‘mire of this world.'”

If you’d like a copy, you can order it through Amazon or Ave Maria Press; it’s also available on Kindle.
