A former colleague from CBS News today remembered this report as “a remarkable feat of airmanship and a tour de force example of broadcast journalism. The very best piece ever on TV. Period.”
It’s truly stunning.
With the world watching in horror what is happening in Kabul, it’s worth seeing and remembering how this same story unfolded in Vietnam some five decades ago. It is an extraordinary piece of journalism — the kind we don’t see very often anymore. Kudos to correspondent Bruce Dunning and cameraman Mike Marriott — two giants who risked everything so this story could be told. They don’t make them like this anymore.
