My wife and I are headed to the airport shortly, bound for South Carolina, where I’ll be leading a retreat for deacons from Charleston.

We’ll be connecting with some old friends — one of whom has assured me that he will introduce to me to some fine local cuisine.

“Start whetting your appetite now for fried okra, collard greens, mac’n’cheese, bbq, chicken & waffles, banana puddin,” he wrote.
