I’m in South Carolina this weekend, where I just finished leading a retreat for some 250 people, deacons and their wives, from the Diocese of Charleston. (We had a wonderful time — thank you, Charleston!) But back home in Queens, my parish choir was singing this rousing hymn for this Sunday, when we are reminded by the Gospel to be the “light of the world.”

I know:  some people love it and some people hate it. What can I say? It never fails to lift my spirits.

Shine, y’all!
